If you are a Fordham Law faculty member and need assistance setting up an online journal alert using these or any other systems, please contact the Reference Desk (refdesk@law.fordham.edu or 212-636-6908), or your Faculty Liaison.
SmartCILP provides weekly email alerts of recently published periodical articles. Alerts can be limited by general topic area, specific subject heading, or journal title. SmartCILP content comes from the Current Index of Legal Periodicals (CILP) which is published by the University of Washington Law Library. CILP indexes more than 570 legal publications and organizes them into 100 subject headings.
Before creating a profile at the SmartCILP website, the user must obtain Fordham Law's SmartCilp authorization code from his or her library liaison. Fordham Law faculty and administrators may also obtain the authorization code by contacting the Fordham Law School reference desk (212-636-6908) or by emailing the library's Reference & Scholarly Services Librarian.
Once you have obtained the authorization code, click here to see the main CILP page. Then select "Create New SmartCILP User."
Enter your @Fordham.edu email (NOT @law.fordham.edu).
You will be redirected to a form where they can manage what they will receive in the weekly SmartCILP notification. All CILP content has been categorized into 104 subjects. Many of those subjects, in turn, have been organized under fifteen topics (or groups) that allow users to subscribe to multiple subjects and subject-specific journals at once. You can learn more about the Topics and Subjects here.
Once you have made your selections, click “Create/Update” once more to successfully create your SmartCILP profile. You will now begin receiving weekly SmartCILP notifications as they are delivered (most Mondays of the year).
You can revise your notifications by selecting the MyHein menu at the top of the page.
